Terms

This page says what you can expect from us and what we expect from you. It covers the free practice on this website and the BrightWren Maths app at app.brightwren.co.uk. It is written to be read rather than skipped, so it is short.

Who you are agreeing with

BrightWren is made and run by Not Another Studio Ltd, a small studio in the United Kingdom. By using the website or the app you accept what is on this page. If you do not, please do not use them.

The website is free, and needs nothing from you

The maths practice on this website is free to use, with no account and no sign-up. You are welcome to use it at home or in a classroom.

The app is free this year, and is a beta

The BrightWren Maths app is free for the whole 2026/27 school year for everyone we invite. We are calling it a beta because that is what it is: it is new, it is still being built, and you will find rough edges. In exchange for it being free, what we ask is that you tell us when something is wrong.

When that school year ends, you keep the app. Families in this beta stay free for as long as we run it, including years you open later as your child moves up. If the app ever starts costing money, that is for families who join after the beta, and not for you. Nothing in the app can charge you today.

Your account, and your children

The account belongs to a grown-up. You must be 18 or over to create one, and you are responsible for what happens on it, including the practice profiles you set up for children in your care. You should only add a child you are the parent or carer of, or one you are otherwise responsible for.

We sign you in with a code sent to your email address, so keep access to that address. Anyone who can read your email can get into your account.

If someone misuses sign-in, we may switch on a check, run by Cloudflare, that a person is asking for a code and not a program. Privacy says what it sees. If it keeps stopping you, email hello@brightwren.co.uk and we will help.

You can remove a child, or ask us to close the whole account, at any time. See Privacy for what that deletes.

What we ask of you

Use it for practising maths. Do not try to break it, take it apart, scrape it, resell it, or use it to store anything that is not what it is for. Do not put a child's real name, or anything else private, into a nickname: the app never asks for one, and a nickname is the one field where you could put something we would rather not hold.

What we promise, and what we do not

We work hard on the maths. Every question is checked against the England National Curriculum and the scheme most primary schools follow, and the app is swept for mistakes before it ships. We still cannot promise it is perfect, and a wrong question is exactly the sort of thing we want to hear about.

What we cannot promise is that the service is always available. It may go down, we may take it down to fix something, and we may change or remove parts of it. It is a maths practice tool and nothing more: it is not tutoring, not a school report, and not advice about your child's education. Decisions about your child's schooling are yours and their school's.

Nothing here limits our responsibility for anything the law says we cannot limit.

Everything on the site belongs to us

The questions, the words, the drawings, the software and the name are ours. You may use them as a family or in a classroom, including printing pages for children to work on. You may not republish them, sell them, or pass them off as your own.

If we have to close an account

We can suspend or close an account that is being used to break these terms or to harm someone. We would tell you why, unless we are not allowed to. If that ever happens, you can ask for your data, and see Privacy for how.

Changes to these terms

If we change anything here that matters, we will say so on this page and, for anything significant, email the address on your account. Last updated: 17 September 2026.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can settle any dispute about them.
