- 12
- 1 hour and 15 minutes
- 6:55
- 3:50
- 2 hours
- 7
- 1 hour and 17 minutes

How to work them out
Start at 1:40 and stop at 1:45. Both times are in the same hour, so count on the minutes from 40 to 45. That is 5 minutes.
The long hand points straight up to 12, so it is o'clock. The short hand points to 10. So the time is 10:00.
There are 12 months in a year. So the answer is 12.
Start at 1:20 and stop at 2:35. Count on 40 minutes to reach 2:00. Then count on 35 more minutes to reach 2:35. Altogether that is 40 + 35 = 75 minutes, which is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The short hand is just past 6, so the hour is 6. Count the minutes round from the top to the long hand: 55 minutes past. So the time is 6:55.
The short hand is just past 3, so the hour is 3. Count the minutes round from the top to the long hand: 50 minutes past. So the time is 3:50.
Start at 4:00 and stop at 6:00. The start is on the hour, so count on 120 minutes from 4:00 to reach 6:00. That is 120 minutes, which is 2 hours.
There are 7 days in a week. So the answer is 7.
Start at 9:23 and stop at 10:40. Count on 37 minutes to reach 10:00. Then count on 40 more minutes to reach 10:40. Altogether that is 37 + 40 = 77 minutes, which is 1 hour and 17 minutes.
The short hand is just past 6, so the hour is 6. Count the minutes round from the top to the long hand: 50 minutes past. So the time is 6:50.

How the worksheet works
Each sheet has ten questions. The first three are a warm-up, the middle four are the core of the topic and the last three are a stretch. There is room under each question to work it out, and a box for the answer. Where a question only works with its choices in front of you, the choices are printed and your child circles one.
The answers start on a new sheet, so you can keep them to one side. Each one comes with a way to work it out. The mark at the foot of the questions matches the mark on the answers.
Nothing is saved and nothing needs signing in to. Print as many as you like: New questions gives you a new sheet each time.
What the questions cover
- Reading an analogue clock to the nearest minute
- Clocks with Roman numerals
- Working out the time between two moments
- Units of time: seconds, minutes, hours, days and months
Rather practise on screen? Year 3 telling the time practice marks every answer as it goes and gets harder as your child gets them right.
